The EnergyXchange greenhouse facilities at the Yancey campus include four greenhouses 30 by 98 feet, and three cold frames 14 by 96 feet. In Summer of 2009, four more cold frames were added to  the site.  Our greenhouses support the production of native rhododendron and azalea plants, and include a year-round aquaponics demonstration. In our greenhouses we tackle the challenging task of growing native flowering shrubs of the Appalachians—beginning from seed. Our staff can explain the difficulties and rewards of this process and how it helps our region, both environmentally and economically. We are mostly a wholesale operation, but offer plants for retail sales as well.
