Artist Biography

William Baker was first introduced to clay while finishing his undergraduate degree, and has been hooked ever since.  Deciding to focus on this craft he moved across the country to accept a resident artist position at the Odyssey Center in Asheville, NC in 2002.  After three years in Asheville, William established his own pottery studio in the mountains near Bakersville and continued his focus on soda glazed pottery while also exploring wood burning kilns.  Naturally, in 2007 he built a small wood burning soda kiln which he continued to use until 2010.  In June of 2010 William joined the other artists at the EnergyXchange in hopes of contributing to and benefitting from the community there.
