| Avery County Campus
Greenhouse production began at the Avery County site in July of
2003.
This site boasts a fully automated production greenhouse that
measures 66 by 96 feet. It has the space to house almost 18,000
plants
in gallon size pots. Liners are produced at the Yancey/Mitchell
site. Some of the liners come to Avery to be grown on for sale as
gallon size plants.
A micropropagation laboratory is located at Mayland Community College.
Micropropagation is a technique for clonally reproducing plants.
The lab allows us to experiment in the tissue culture process with
native plants that are difficult to propagate using conventional
methods.
